Frequently asked questions about tools, methods and enquiries

Specific answers about HDL development, simulation, verification and using EDA Praxis.

These answers help with initial decisions. For technical detail, continue to the topic sections and product pages .

Is EDA Praxis an official manufacturer website?

No. The operator is eVision Systems GmbH. The portal combines technical content with consultation, evaluation licence and quotation enquiries. Aldec and Sigasi are the manufacturers covered; editorial content is not manufacturer approval.

Does an HDL editor replace the simulator?

No. An editor supports writing and understanding source code. A simulator executes the elaborated model with a testbench. Checking behaviour requires suitable stimuli and specific expectations.

What distinguishes syntax checking, linting and simulation?

Syntax checking assesses language form; semantic analysis examines meaning and relationships in the project. Linting checks selected rules and structures. Simulation evaluates behaviour for executed input sequences. These approaches complement one another.

Does Sigasi’s Riviera-PRO integration automatically run a simulation?

The documented external compiler task performs compilation. Simulation additionally requires elaboration, a testbench and a defined run. Check these steps separately and evaluate their respective status.

What are the current Sigasi products called?

The current product line is Sigasi Visual HDL, used in VS Code. The manufacturer lists Designer, Professional and Enterprise. Earlier Sigasi Studio and Eclipse products are classified as legacy. Check the specific feature matrix before making a selection.

Can the Community Edition be used in a business?

Sigasi restricts Community Edition to non-commercial use and lists active Talkback as a prerequisite. For a commercial evaluation, clarify the appropriate evaluation licence and its conditions. A freely available download does not imply unrestricted usage rights.

Is an evaluation licence immediately available through the form?

No. The form submits an enquiry to eVision Systems. Availability, scope, prerequisites and conditions must be confirmed for the specific request. Automatic licence provisioning or a particular duration is not promised.

What information helps when choosing a simulator?

Specify the operating system, HDL languages and versions, testbench method, vendor libraries, IP models, debugging and coverage needs, and intended interactive or automated use. A small representative project is more useful for evaluation than a long generic feature list.

Does high code coverage prove functional correctness?

No. Depending on the metric, code coverage shows which parts of the code were executed. It does not automatically establish that all relevant requirements were checked or that the testbench uses correct expectations. Functional objectives and untested cases need separate consideration.

Have the examples been tested in Aldec and Sigasi?

The actual test status appears in each article. An example may have been developed from documentation or executed in another tool. Only an explicitly named environment that was actually used counts as an execution test.

Which content is suitable for getting started?

Start with the topic page that matches your bottleneck. Next read a fundamentals article, then run a bounded application note in a separate working directory. The glossary helps with unfamiliar terms.

Should I attach confidential source code to my enquiry?

Please do not do so initially. Describe the task without confidential details. If source code, project data or licence information becomes necessary, first agree on a suitable transfer channel and permitted recipients.

Are prices and licence scope on the product page binding?

Product pages provide technical orientation. A binding quotation must specify the configuration, user count, usage and conditions. We therefore do not state blanket prices or unverified licensing commitments.

How do I report a technical error?

Use the enquiry form and provide the article title, affected statement, your version and, where possible, an official source or reproducible finding. A correction should remain traceable and receive an updated review date.

Does your question depend on a particular project environment? Describe it in a consultation enquiry.
